Wag! Walkers know Exposition Park (Expo)
Exposition Park is located in South Dallas, Texas. Located along what is called Exposition Circle, the intersection of Main Street, Commerce Street, Canton Street, and Exposition Avenue to the entrance of Fair Park, Expo Park sits at the edge of Deep Ellum. A mixture of restaurants, businesses, and entertainment venues can be found in this busy downtown area.
The hot summer days where temperatures can easily climb over 100 degrees can make the sidewalk heavy walking experience tricky for our furry friends. You will want to provide paw protection when walking in the heat of the day. Carry water for both you and Fido as dehydration can sneak up on you in the dry heat! Take an adult break at Cold Beer Company on Main Street where leashed dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio. Winters are mild and comfortable but a rare snowstorm can blow in that will close the city down for the duration.
What is the terrain like in Exposition Park (Expo)?
With a relatively flat terrain, Exposition Park is sidewalk heavy metropolitan experience. This area of downtown Dallas does not have many planned treescapes to provide shade. It will be a sunny walk on clear days and there will be little protection during bad weather. Downtown Dallas sometimes gets the nickname 'concrete city,' and that will be apparent on a walk through this neighborhood. Colorful, artsy sidewalks border Exposition Avenue that can break up the monotony of your walk.
Expo Park is more a hub of automotive traffic than pedestrian traffic, so obey all pedestrian traffic laws and cross streets at the appropriate crosswalks. Sidewalks are narrow and there is little protection from the traffic. You'll want to keep your pup on the inside of the sidewalk for their protection. Being a city, you will want to make plans to carry out any waste produced by your pup and perhaps plan for pit stops along the way.
How many greenways are there in Exposition Park (Expo)?
Even though 'park' is in the name, there is just a bit of green in the neighborhood. Exposition Plaza is at the corner of Exposition Avenue and Canton Street. The Plaza is a 1-acre special use park that boasts an amphitheater and some awesome sculptures. More of a walking experience, the Plaza's walkways are concrete with surrounding grassy areas and sculptures on one side of Exposition Avenue. Across the street is the open grassy area of the amphitheater. Dallas does have leash laws and both of these areas are on-leash experiences for your pup.
Follow Exposition Avenue under Highway 30 and you will find the other green space in the area. The Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial is across Parry Street. Open green space, shade trees, and concrete walking paths create a tourist attraction so expect pedestrian traffic to be a bit heavier here. In this space as well, you'll need to keep your pup on a leash.
