Fair Park is a very traditional Dallas suburb on the eastern edge of downtown. Although it is traditionally very helpful living downtown because of the closeness to several businesses, for some reason, the eastern region of downtown Dallas is prone to having very low numbers of pet related businesses. Although it's hard to say for sure, this may be an indicator that less pets live in this region, or simply that this region is a bit further behind on the development of local businesses than the others.

Whatever the reason, it can be very frustrating for residents who usually have to drive or walk through the busy city to get to the pet services they need. However, there are some local pet business exceptions that really help save the day for some residents. The top place to go for most pet needs would be Rutherford Veterinary Hospital. Groomers such as Downtown Dog are a huge help as well.

Mostly Flat
Mostly Hilly
This area is equally as traditional to downtown Dallas when it comes to the environment and topography. Traditionally, most of West Texas is very flat. This has also lead to most areas being more artificial because it was easier to build on the very flat terrain. Fair Park very much follows the trend of being both flat and artificial. Although there is a movement toward creating and maintaining more parks in Dallas, this area in general is mostly just rows upon rows of houses.

The parks that are here are all neighborhood parks usually filled with lots of attractions and lots of children which may not be ideal for everyone. However, for certain people, this close knit little community is perfect and neighborhood parks is all they feel they need. This area is especially great for groups of society that may have more trouble hiking up tall hills or climbing through forests.

Given the location and general artificiality of this neighborhood, it would be expected that there would not be very many greenways in the area. However, that expectation could not be further from the truth. Dallas has done an excellent job of reintroducing parks and wildlife to the suburbs surrounding their inner city. This has helped substantially for resident pet owners who now have more options than ever for where to walk their pet.

One of the more out there options available in the area is the Texas Discovery Gardens. This beautiful public garden teaches nature conservation through events and exhibits. They also have a remarkable butterfly house! Another, more traditional option is Opportunity Park. This great park has trails, sports courts, fields, a playground, and plenty of green space to play around with your best furry friend. Samuell Grand Park is also a fun option featuring a driving range, sports courts and fields, and a playground.
