If you find yourself walking in the Hollywood-Santa Monica neighborhoods, you will be walking in some serious history. Located northwest of Texas Highway 78 and the Tennyson Park Golf Course, these two neighborhoods represent two of the first conservation districts in the city. This is an opportunity for you and your canine companion to step back in time as many of the Tudor style homes were built before World War II. Home to just over 2,000 folks and 100-year-old oak trees, this is a fantastic neighborhood to walk. With homes protected by historic designations, neighbors are bound by strong community ties, so don’t be surprised if they know your pup by name!

This is strictly a residential community, so there are no restaurants or retail businesses that cater to our furry friends. But the abundance of old tree canopies protects you and your pup during those hot summers while keeping you dry if you get caught in a spring rainstorm.

The Hollywood-Santa Monica neighborhood is registered as a conservation district. As such, the homes are protected and any renovations or changes must be consistent with the original style. This protection gives the neighborhood the feeling of being caught in time. The homes are in the Tudor style and give you a unique view into history while you walk.

The great mix of artificial and natural rolling terrain often boasts oak trees that are over 100 years old! Sidewalks may feel a bit on the narrow side and, in some areas, you might come across some uneven spots so watch your step so you don't trip. Some streets have no sidewalks, so make sure you are walking against traffic. Automotive traffic is slower in the neighborhood, but still present, so follow pedestrian traffic laws to keep you and your pup safe. Many of the green spaces inside the area are private lawns, so be polite and pick up any waste.

There is green all over the Hollywood-Santa Monica neighborhood, not just making up private yards, but some great parks find their homes here too. Enjoy both parks with your pup on their leash as these are not dog parks but public family-friendly areas. Lindsley Park is an 8-acre park on Tenison Memorial Drive. Established in 1947, the park hosts a baseball field, a basketball court, and a playground. The open green fields with large established trees for shade cover are great for a game of long leash fetch. Wide walking paths meander through the park, making it an easy, comfortable walk.

Randall Park sits just outside the neighborhood on Santa Fe Avenue. This 16-acre park was established in 1922 and hosts a wide array of park amenities. Walking trails stretch around and through the park, giving you and your pup the chance for an excellent walking work out. Baseball, softball, and soccer fields, plus a tennis court round out a great park experience.
