Dog owners who walk their pups regularly in the LoMac neighborhood enjoy warm weather year round. Rain is infrequent, except during thunderstorms that occur early in the year. These storms can be severe and should be avoided when strolling with your pet. Freezing rain is also possible in the winter and makes sidewalks and roadways very slippery. If possible, wait until icy surfaces thaw before venturing out. Summer heat presents a problem of its own with extreme temperatures creating a danger of heat-related illnesses from overexposure, overexertion, or dehydration. Avoid heat by walking earlier or later in the day.
Structures in the area consist mainly of multi-story retail, commercial, residential, and office buildings. There are some high-rise apartments and office towers, walk-up apartment buildings, and some row houses, condos, and single-family dwellings.
The terrain is relatively flat and there are no steep hills to climb. Busy freeways adjacent to the area are not pedestrian-friendly and should be avoided. This district is a highly diverse, developed urban setting with lots to see and plenty of activity that is interesting to take in on a walk with your pup, but watch out for cyclists, vehicles, and other pedestrians in the area. Ensure your dog is securely leashed and used to noise and activity.
Klyde Warren Park is located on the south side of the neighborhood and is a unique park on an overpass over the Woodall Rodgers Freeway. The park has interesting views of the surrounding skyline and community and a dedicated dog park.
My Best Friends Park is an enclosed, off-leash dog park where your pup can make some new friends and enjoy a separate doggie space. There is lots of other activity at this unique park including a games courtyard where chess and checkers are set up, croquet, a putting green, a children's park, and live music on Thursday nights that make this park a great destination to check out.
Griggs Park is located on the east side of the LoMac area. This 7-acre park has benches to take a break and a pet waste station to dispose of your pooch’s leavings. There are paved pedestrian trails in the park to enjoy the green open spaces and trees.
