As with any place you go, make sure to check the weather before heading out. Dallas stays warm all year round, providing perfect weather for a walk with your pet. However, the summer temperatures can reach the 100s and severe thunderstorms often light up the sky. Plan morning walks to avoid the heat and check the forecast so you don't get caught in a storm.
Try to avoid walking Fido in the western part of the region. This is where most of the industrial buildings are situated and there are very few sidewalks. The scenery isn't all that interesting and it's dangerous to walk on the roads. You'll have a more pleasant walk if you stick around the residential part of Northwest Dallas. There are areas in other parts of the neighborhood, however, that also don't have sidewalks. Most of these are on side streets near homes. If you walk there, keep your pet on a tight leash.
Bachman Lake Park is a large, expansive green area just above the airport. Surrounding Bachman Lake, the park features a three-mile trail perfect for a scenic walk with your dog. You can also choose to drive over to Spring Trail Park in the east where you'll find miles of trails surrounded by natural foliage.
