Loyal to its name, Old East Dallas is one of the most historic neighborhoods of Dallas set northeast of the city's central downtown area. Many of the residential homes in the community are more than 100 years old. As you walk through this area, you'll notice these old, beautiful houses set behind sprawling lawns. In other parts of Old East Dallas, you'll find bustling business areas, featuring a variety of local shops and eateries. 

Old East Dallas loves dogs and it's apparent in the number places you can take Fido. There's Urban Dogg Dallas, a local supply store, PetSmart in the northwest, and Amy's Jogging Dogs, a grooming salon, is located southeast of there. In the south, the Upper Paw is another local supply store. There are also several restaurants around the neighborhood that welcome pets in the outdoor seating areas. You can enjoy these areas all year round as Dallas' climate stays fairly warm all year.

Like most Dallas neighborhoods, you won't see many hills in Old East Dallas. This neighborhood is ideal for the dog who enjoys leisurely walks down city sidewalks or more suburban areas. This area is perfect for older dogs who tire faster than younger dogs and also for energetic pups who love exploring! Old East Dallas is unique because you can choose to spend your walk admiring the old homes with pretty lawns or head over to the busier area where you can do some window shopping or stop for a bite to eat. 

While most of the community features wide sidewalks along quieter roadways, always stay cautious near busy areas. Interstate 30 and Route 75 border Old East Dallas and many of the streets there have on and off ramps to the highways. Be careful when crossing these busy streets and keep your pet on a tight leash.

Old East Dallas is home to many city parks with sprawling green grass to enjoy. In the northeast, Garrett Park features walking paths around a playground and picnic area. Buckner Samuel Park to the south of there is another small park with athletic fields and space to relax on a sunny day. There's also Exall Park in the western part of Old East Dallas where you can admire gardens as you walk through the greenway. 

Central Square Park is a small, shady area that offers a quiet space. Right next door is Swiss & Liberty Dog Park where you can let your pooch run wild under the trees, exploring and meeting other doggie friends. There's another Bark Park in the southern area of Old East Dallas in the Deep Ellum neighborhood. This park, situated below the highway, features a grassy area for pets to run free.
