The Cedars is next to and south of downtown and Interstate 30 to the north, the Houston & Texas Central Railroad to the east, the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe tracks to the south, and the Missouri Kansas and Texas tracks to the west. A small, but tremendously varied neighborhood, the Cedars has everything from a warehouse district, retail space, and residential areas with homes, lofts, and apartments. While rich with history and almost 140 years old, it is considered an up-and-coming community in the Dallas area.

Brave the Texas summer heat for a great cup of coffee at the Opening Bell Coffee Shop on South Lamar Street. Pups are welcome in the outdoor hallway section. Enjoy the variety of the neighborhood with longer walks during the fall, winter, and spring. Fall and spring can see the occasional thunderstorm, but winter is usually pretty mild. Any serious winter weather brings the city to a standstill, keeping both pups and people indoors.

Mostly Hilly
This is a diverse community with many different features, but its terrain is mostly artificial. There is a warehouse district that has no sidewalks and strictly on-street walking as well as scattered residential sections that have sparse tree cover. The residential neighborhoods have sidewalks that are more narrow; leftovers from days gone by. The retail and business area is scattered throughout with restaurants and popular nightlife spots thrown in, giving some areas a busy metro feel. The area is also a popular cultural destination with loft-living and artist studios mixed in and around the area.

You and your pup will find many different experiences on a walk through this area. While the diversity might pique your curiosity, it might stress out a pup with so many changes. Wherever you go in the neighborhood, your pup is going to have a sidewalk and concrete walking experience. Watch for signs of over-stimulation and stress, but enjoy the variety!

The Cedars is home to one of the most loved green spaces in the area and it is dog-friendly!  The Dallas Heritage Village collects, preserves, and educates the public on the history of Dallas and North Central Texas. Located in Old City Park, the museum uses its collections of historic buildings and furnishings, representing the period between 1840 and 1910. You can enjoy the grounds with your furry friend on a leash, however, the buildings are off limits to all but service dogs. Cleaning up after your furry friend is a must, so make sure you have planned accordingly. Drinking fountains are located throughout the Village to refill water bottles and for water bowl breaks!

Old City Park is right across the street from the Heritage Village and is 22-acre destination park with a playground, recreational facility, and trails throughout. The park is a popular place on weekend and after working hours.
