Braeswood Place is a region on the southwest side of Houston, Texas, comprised of several residential subdivisions within Houston's 610 Loop. There are many local businesses, restaurants, shops, and services located in the area that are within reach for on foot traffic. Commercial corridors lined with businesses run along the east, west, and north side, so no matter where you reside in the area, you can reach necessary services.
Houston has very hot, humid summers where severe thunderstorms are also frequent. Take your dog out at cooler times of the day to avoid extreme heat and ensure you and your dog are well hydrated. When thunderstorms are imminent, take shelter as high winds and heavy rains pose hazards and tornadoes are not unknown in the area. Flash floods are also a concern during storms and make local waterways dangerous. Spring and fall provide more moderate temperatures and winters, although cool, are mild.
This neighborhood includes several subdivisions with 2,200 homes. Subdivisions comprising the Braeswood Place community include Braes Manor, Emerald Forest, Southern Oaks, Braes Heights, Ayrshire, and Braes Oaks. The Brays Bayou runs through the neighborhood and has green space associated with it. The terrain in the region is level with only very slight inclines and no steep hills. Sidewalks run along residential and commercial thoroughfares and provide safe separate pertains ways for people and pets.
Homes in the area are single-family detached dwellings that are well set on attractive properties that are well landscaped. When crossing freeways, train tracks, or waterways, use streets with pedestrian ways along them to safely cross these barriers.
The Officer Lucy Dog Park is located on the west border of Braeswood. The train tracks lie in between residences and the park, but can be crossed nearby at North Braeswood Boulevard. This great off-leash park has double gated entrances and separate enclosed areas for large and small dogs.
The Karl Young Park is a community park with sports facilities and fields with a small trail system. Although only five acres in size, the park has lovely open areas and shade trees, making it a desirable location for a walk with your pooch.
Helen’s Park is a very attractive park with gardens, water features, and paved walking paths. Your dog should remain leashed in this park and you should be prepared to clean up after your pet to help maintain the beauty of the park for other users. Linkwood Park also has some sports fields and facilities, open and treed areas, and a walking trail for strolls.
