While walking with your dog in the region, you can stop at one of the local dog=friendly restaurants that allow pets to join their owners in outdoor seating venues which include the Grove, Tout Suite, Char Bar, Bombay Pizza Company, and Hard Rock Cafe. Very hot temperatures in the summer can heat pavement in the downtown area which can damage or burn your pup's paws. Doggie boots to protect paw pads from cement and hot surfaces may be advised.
Apartments, condominiums, and offices occupy upper stories of multi-story structures, often with retail space at street level. The tall buildings create artificial canyons and provide some shade to streetscapes, depending on the time of day. There is little landscaping in this developed urban center.
The terrain is flat and there are no steep hills for foot traffic to navigate. Streets are lined with separate pedestrian sidewalks, many of which have brick surfaces and crosswalks at intersections are often distinguished by these which contrast with the asphalt of city streets.
The White Oak Bayou Greenway Trail extends for 17 miles and the Buffalo Bayou Greenway Trail extends for 15. These trails run along the creeks and are popular with dog walkers, joggers, commuters, cyclists, and skaters, providing great trails to take your pup for a stroll.
Discovery Park occupies 12 acres and has an open air theaters, restaurants, jogging trails, an artificial lake, lawns, and trees. Most events at the park allow leashed pets to join their owners. There is also a fenced off-leash dog park located here. The dog park has separate large and small dogs areas, a gravel surface, seating for owners supervising their pets, and drinking fountains to hydrate on hot summer days.
Tranquility Park is a park commemorating NASA's moon landing and other activities. The park has open lawns and interconnected fountains. Walking paths in the area are an interesting place for a stroll with your leashed pet.
