Gulfton is a residential neighborhood located in Houston, Texas. It is nine miles southwest of the downtown area and is located directly off the Southwest Freeway. Houston is one of the largest urban cities in the state of Texas and is located in the southeast part of the state next to Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. As a major urban environment, Houston is home to plenty of attractions and landmarks! There are several well-known museums, different professional sports, and plenty of greenways for you and your pups to explore.

Gulfton, as a largely residential community, is primarily composed of standalone, single-family homes, however, there are over ten apartment complexes located in the northwest  and southwest corners of the neighborhood. Commercially, there are a few restaurants and businesses located on Bellaire Boulevard as well as in the northern part of the neighborhood, closer to the local freeway. You can find several public schools, chain restaurants, a large superstore, and a grocery store.

As a suburb of an urban city, Gulfton has artificial terrain. Even the local greenways are manicured and kept. However, many of the local streets don't have well-maintained sidewalks if they have any sidewalks at all! It seems you and Fido will likely have to share the roadway with other pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic. Always be aware of your surroundings and, if walking at night, please make sure to have or wear something reflective, like a safety belt or a reflective leash for Fido!

Thankfully, Gulfton is a rather flat neighborhood, so you and your pups shouldn't experience any steep hills during your daily walking routes.

The boundaries of the Gulfton neighborhood include Southwest Freeway to the north, Anderson Street, South Rice Avenue, Ferris Street, and Chimney Rock Road to the east, Pine Street, Evergreen Street, and Bissonnet Street to the south, and Hillcroft Avenue to the west.

There are several greenways located in the Gulfton neighborhood. Smaller greenways include San Jacinto Stone, Remington Park, and Joe Gaither Park. These are generally all located in the northeast corner of the neighborhood. Unfortunately, none of these smaller parks offer an off-leash area for Fido to play in, but you will find playgrounds, places to stop and rest, paved walking paths, and plenty of people-watching for you to enjoy!

The largest greenway in Gulfton is Burnett Bayland Park. This greenway is home to a community center, a garden, a one-mile walking trail, a water playground, a picnicking area, and several sports courts and fields. Again, there is no dog park located in Burnett Bayland Park, but this is still a great option if Fido needs a rest stop during your daily walks.

Thankfully, the Danny Jackson Family Bark Park is only a few blocks from Gulfton. It is located to the east of the neighborhood in the Bellaire Junction area.
