Schools and a medical center are also within walking distance and some large commercial shopping areas are located to the southeast which include large chain pet stores. Although these shopping plazas are a bit of a jaunt, they can be reached on foot or by a short drive.
Houston pet owners enjoy warm temperatures throughout the year for walks. Winter is cooler, however, temperatures are mild and usually above freezing. Occasional freezing rain episodes make conditions slick and should be avoided. Summer temperatures can be very hot and are a risk for pedestrians and pets that overexert themselves, are overexposed, or become dehydrated. Drink lots of water and find shade for you and your pup!
Train tracks along the northeast side present an impediment to pedestrians and pets and should be avoided or crossed only at designed crossing ways. There is a largely undeveloped, heavily treed area east of Hollister Road with natural terrain. The neighborhood is flat for the most part and there are no steep hills for people and their pooches to worry about climbing. Several bayous run through Spring Branch Central which feed into the Buffalo Bayou.
There are several small parks and greenways in the Spring Branch Central neighborhood. Binglewood Park is located in Spring Branch Central and has a playground and open green area with some trees. A circular paved walking path loops about the park and makes a lovely walking trail for you and your dog.
Other area parks include Spring Valley Village City Park located to the south which has a hard surfaced walking path, shade trees, and a shade structure and open and treed areas to enjoy. Nob Hill Park and Haden Park are located to the west and provide pleasant greenway destinations for walks with your canine companion. These parks have walking trails, lawns, trees, and play structures. Schwartz Park to the east has recreational facilities and a swimming pool.
For a more canine-focused greenway, try TC Jester Dog park which is located a short drive to the east and provides an off-leash area for your pup to play.
