Wag! Walkers know Cardinal Family Village
Cardinal Family Village is a small residential neighborhood of the city of Irving, Texas. The area is primarily single-family homes with a few apartments in the neighborhood as well. A grocery store and some service-oriented businesses is about all you might come across as you take your four-legged companion for a long walk. There are a couple of restaurants along the borders of the neighborhood, but you are not likely to find much of anything on a neighborhood walk unless you venture to the south or north end as the closest pet store is up in Northgate Heights.
Weather in Irving is very hot in the summer with temperatures soaring into the 90s and even triple digits. It never really cools down a lot, so hot pavement will be a serious concern for walking your dog. Winters are very mild, but cold temperatures have been known to occur. Late fall through early spring will be your best walking times.
What is the terrain like in Cardinal Family Village?
Cardinal Family Village is very flat with no elevation whatsoever. This is not a bad thing if you are only looking to get some fresh air and give your pooch a chance to stretch their legs. For those looking to take a few pounds off, this bit of exercise will probably do just fine. With hot temperatures, you do have to be careful of the amount of exertion that you and your pup experience, as well as watching the temperature of the concrete sidewalks. If you do walk on hot days, make sure that you walk in the morning, plan routes with plenty of shade or grass, and take lots of water for both of you. Fortunately, the sidewalks in this area do have a lot of grass on the shoulders but be careful that your pup spends very little time on the concrete as it does not take much to get burned!
How many greenways are there in Cardinal Family Village?
You won’t really find any greenways in Cardinal Family Village, but if you don’t mind hopping in the car, you will have a few more choices available to you.
To the northeast is California Crossing Park which runs along the Elm Fork Trinity River. The Campion Trail runs through this park heading northwest through the Bird’s Fort Trail Park and the Spring Trail Park. It goes even farther north, so there is no problem taking a nice long walk if that is what you are after. The trail is lined with trees and grass, so your pup will not have to walk on hot surfaces.
To the southeast is another similar greenway running along the Elm Fork Trinity River which also has a trail running alongside it. If you want to keep walking in the summer and you have time, these trails make a great alternative to walking around the neighborhood.
