Parkwood Estates is a residential suburban neighborhood on the east side of Pasadena, Texas. This peaceful residential suburb does not have any commercial services within walking distance and residents accessing services for themselves or their pets need to travel outside of the community. The quiet Parkwood Estates streets and the nearby school and park, however, provide excellent walking destinations.

The weather in Pasadena is hot and humid in the summertime and cool but mild in the winter. Spring thunderstorms and severe weather can extend into the summer and tornadoes may occur in the area. Be aware of daily forecasts before venturing out on your daily walk with your pooch. On very hot days, choose to take your dog for daily walks early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures moderate somewhat. Make sure you have water along if you are taking an extended walk so you and your pup don't get dehydrated!

The terrain in Parkwood Estates is flat which is good because climbing a hill on a scorching hot Pasadena summer day would be quite a trial! The neighborhood is a suburban, residential community with single-family homes. Most houses are brick bungalows with large lawns and properties. Properties are well-landscaped and maintained. Streets have sidewalks and grassy berms separating sidewalks from roadways. Grassy berms provide softer footing for your dog on walks through the neighborhood but remember to clean up after your pup to keep in good with your neighbors in this small community!

There are three large schools and a park to the northwest to enjoy while school properties have sports fields and facilities. Other residential neighborhoods surround Parkwood Estates and the Sam Houston Parkway runs along the eastern side of the community. An undeveloped tract of land separates homes from the busy expressway which protects the community from traffic noise somewhat.

Parkwood Estates has large residential properties with homes well set back from property lines so walking along sidewalks in the area provides a greenway experience for pet owners and their canine companions. A greenway is also available in Deepwater Optimist Park. This two-acre park located between two elementary schools, a junior high, and an early childhood center is also located just north of Parkwood Estates. The school properties provide baseball diamonds, playgrounds, and other sports facilities while the park features a paved pedestrian greenway with a large open area in the middle. The ball diamonds are lighted and evening games are enjoyed by locals. If you are walking your dog along the greenway in the evening, you can even take in a game! Keep your dog leashed and bring supplies to clean up after your dog's toilet breaks in the park as this is a recreational area with many users, other pet owners, and pups.
