Wag! Walkers know Fairhaven
Fairhaven was a town founded in 1854 which was later absorbed as a part of the newly-formed Bellingham in 1903. Fairhaven is a popular tourist destination and is known for being the port for ferry service to Alaska, the San Juan Islands, and Victoria, British Columbia. You will find plenty of food and drink as well as grocery stores to cater to all of your needs in this area. For your pup, there is a veterinarian and a grooming shop available. You may need to hit the local grocery store to grab their grub and a treat as anything more extensive is going to require a trip out of the neighborhood by car to find.
Weather is usually mild throughout the year, but there are a full four seasons with summer temperatures rarely hitting 90 and winters typically having only short stretches of cold weather. Rains come in both fall and spring and the Pacific storms can be quite intense.
What is the terrain like in Fairhaven?
There are a number of hills in Fairhaven but most of them are easy to walk, even for beginners. In fact, the walk around this neighborhood is quite pleasant, not just because of the gentle slopes, but also because it is a busy little neighborhood with lots happening. If you and your pooch love to window shop and people-watch, you will find that there is lots to do in this area.
The area is entirely concrete with no grass which might be tough on your dog's feet, especially if it is a warm day. Make sure that if you are going to walk that you do it before the pavement has a chance to heat up and make things uncomfortable.

Fairhaven Park is the closest park to the neighborhood and it features large open green spaces as well as lots of trees and some nice trails that run through the wooded areas. There are lots of things here for your pup to explore! Even more importantly, the Whatcom County and Bellingham Interurban Trails run through the park and there is another trail that connects to this path that comes down south from Fairhaven proper. You can either drive to the park or you can pick up the trail just south of Old Fairhaven Pkwy. Off of 14th Street, the main interurban trail goes south for miles, so pick how long of a walk you want.
To the north of Fairhaven, you will find Boulevard Park which also has its own network of trails and it sits on the bay, giving you access to the beaches as well.
