Hillman City is a neighborhood of southeast Seattle, Washington. Residents of this area have about a 20-minute commute to Seattle’s downtown business district. There are many restaurants, shops, and services located along Rainier Avenue that can be reached on foot by locals. A short distance to the north is a unique pet supply store, All The Best Pet Care, and a pet-friendly restaurant that allows dogs to join owners on their outdoor seating area, Tutta Bella Neapolitan Pizzeria.

When walking with your dog in Hillman City, you and your pup need to be prepared with rain gear or you are both going to get very wet!  It frequently rains, mostly in fall, winter, and spring and an umbrella is a must. Winters are cool and a warmer jacket may be necessary during winter months. Luckily, sub-freezing temperatures rarely linger and snow is rare, making the outdoors still walkable, even in winter.

Hillman City is bordered by South Dawson Street on the north, Martin Luther King Jr. Way on the west, 48th Avenue South on the east, and South Graham Street on its south side. This neighborhood has some hilly terrain and, when walking with your pooch on Hillman City streets, you will find yourself hiking up and downhill. If you or your dog are mobility impaired, steep grades in the region can present an impediment to getting around easily. There are separate sidewalks on streets that provide safe pedestrian ways for pedestrians and pets.

Most of the area is residential with moderate homes on well-landscaped properties. Due to the frequent precipitation in the area, landscaping can be quite lush and trees are large and provide plenty of shade.

Public transportation train tracks along Martin Luther King Jr. Way create additional traffic on this thoroughfare. Be sure to cross this road and tracks only at controlled designated pedestrian crossings with your dog securely leashed and under control.
