South Lake Union is so named due to its location on the south side of Union Lake. Seattle's downtown core is just a five-minute commute by vehicle to the south or a little over 30 minutes on foot. The neighborhood is packed with shops, services, and restaurants so residents walking their dog can reach a variety of locations on foot.
The Lake Union Veterinary Center is situated in the area and a local pet-friendly restaurant, Nollie's Cafe, allows pets in their outdoor seating. The eatery even serves up natural treats for your pooch.
Dog walkers in Seattle rarely have to contend with severe cold in winter, although cool, sustained and sub-freezing temperatures are rare, so a warm jacket is usually sufficient. Summers are ideal for walking with few thunderstorms or rainy days and relatively temperate conditions. Rain during spring, winter, and fall is a common occurrence and, if you want to walk daily with your pet, you will need some rain gear.
