Situated just behind Capitol Hill and south of Montlake, this area is quieter than most. You will find a wide range of businesses along the perimeter of
Stevens, but only a few through the mostly residential center of the neighborhood.
Most of what you will find is restaurants, but there is also a store or two along
the way. Fortunately, the retailers have not forgotten your fluffy friend as there
is also a pet store in the area and a place to get a bath and thorough
grooming.
In a typical year, the weather in Seattle is mild year round. Every
few years, snow will roll through and, when it does, the sidewalks are not fit for
walking on. Other
than that, your biggest obstacle is wind and rain, which can be heavy at times.

What is the terrain like in Stevens?
The biggest issue you will have when it comes to terrain in
Stevens is that it is almost all hills. Many of the hills here are not for the
faint of heart, either. Sitting on the back of one of the highest hills in
Seattle, you can expect to get a serious workout when walking around this neighborhood.
The area is also very old, so you might come across some of the old brick roads
as you go on your walk. Most of the roads are in good repair, however, and there
are sidewalks throughout the neighborhood. Most of the roads are fairly quiet and traffic is not a big issue, but there are some busier crossroads that you
should be aware of. 24th runs north and south and has a bit more traffic
than most of the residential streets while both 15th and Madison run
along the perimeter and are where the majority of the businesses are, so expect a bit more traffic on these roads as well.
How many greenways are there in Stevens?
While Stevens is one of the few landlocked neighborhoods in
the area that does not have access to the waterfront, you have plenty of
greenways around and the water is never very far away.
To the north end of Stevens, you will find Interlaken Park. This 51-acre park
has many trails for you and your pup to explore and there is even some nice
hiking trails in a densely wooded area, making it a real treat for urban dwellers.
Volunteer Park is just southwest of the interurban park which is a bit
more urban, offering paths instead of dirt trails like Interlake Park has.
To
the east is the Alder Creek Natural area, Seattle Japanese Garden, and
Washington Park Playfield. While neither the garden or the playfield allows
dogs, you and your pups can walk the plethora of pathways surrounding them. You
will find lots of trees and grass surrounding both as well as the creek for your
pup to enjoy exploring.
