Wag! Walkers know Ballinger
Ballinger is conveniently located along Ballinger Way and Interstate 5. With a high percentage of apartment buildings and retail businesses, it is a busy exchange for those working at Boeing, the tech corridor in Redmond, or commuting to either Bellevue or Seattle. Middle-class homes and luxury apartments make this area a go-to community for young professionals and their families.
Ballinger Way is home to many of the amenities for this area including food, drink, and pet amenities like animal hospitals and grooming facilities in the vicinity. While you will not find a pet store, there are plenty of places in the area that will carry almost anything your dog needs from their favorite food to their brand new shiny collar.
Weather in Shoreline is mostly walkable with the majority of days dry and temperate but this area is prone to storms, so keep an umbrella handy with you for when it's a little rainy.
What is the terrain like in Ballinger?
Ballinger is a mix of rolling hills and flat terrain. While good beginner walkers, those who are looking for exercise might be a bit disappointed with the lack of challenging terrain. To the west side of the neighborhood, athletic pooches and their owners may find more challenging terrain, or you can simply spend more time pounding the pavement to get that heart rate up.
The only sidewalks you will find in Ballinger are those along the main roads. It is recommended that if you plan to walk on the side streets that you wear some sort of reflective or bright material. It is also a good idea to equip your dog with the same material so that if you must walk on the side of the road, you can be clearly seen. The shoulders of the road vary from gravel to grass where there are any and the roads are all mostly asphalt.
How many greenways are there in Ballinger?
The only greenway in Ballinger is Brugger’s Bog Park. It is small, but it does have some trails among the trees and some grass, making a nice stopping point along your walk. At the northeast corner of the neighborhood, there is Terrace Ridge Park which has a walking trail and a water fountain so if you happen to be on a walk close by, it is a great place to stop for a quick drink.
Just outside of the neighborhood to the southwest is North City Park. Nice wooded trails are the highlight of this park as well as a wide-open space where your dog can get a chance to explore. Finally, to the northwest is Lake Ballinger. The lake has a 55-acre park at the north end with large open spaces. Once a golf course, the area is now divided up between public spaces and wetland habitats that are off limits to the public.
