This northeastern Woodinville neighborhood is a unique area that is home to business and upper middle class families commuting into Redmond, Bellevue, and Seattle. With large wooded properties and tree-lined streets, the privacy that this neighborhood affords is highly sought after. Woodinville has a microclimate that produces some of the finest wines in the country and has been a draw for concerts and other tourism. Leota is primarily residential and very quiet so you won't find much in the way of commercial spaces. A few small corner stores is all you will find here. Over to the east near I-405, you will find pet stores, groomers, and veterinarians.

Weather in Woodinville is a bit different than most of the surrounding areas because it exists in a microclimate that is ideal for growing wine grapes. It rarely gets really cold or hot and has close to 250 days a year that are dry.

Leota is not completely flat, but at the lowest elevations, you see only a few rolling hills that will do no more than getting your blood pumping and help you and your pup burn a few extra calories. Towards the edges of Leota, the hills become much more pronounced and more advanced walkers can put a bit more effort into their daily walks. These are country-style roads so sidewalks are very rare and most walking will be done either on the shoulders or on the road. Look for wider shoulders where you can get off the road, wear reflective materials, and whenever possible, walk so that traffic is coming towards you so you can be aware of what is going on. A walk through these neighborhoods can be a real treat thanks to the trees and the solitude, but only if you use caution.

There is only one tiny park in Leota which looks more like a rest stop for weary walkers. A small patch of grass, some benches, and a table await you which make it a great place for your pup to explore and roll in the grass a bit before you head home.

Bassett Pond Natural area is just to the south and east of Leota and has plenty of walking trails. Right next to this is Cottage Park and Lake with a walking path, lots of greenery, and a small beach. To the north and east is the Paradise Valley Conservation Area. This area has wetlands, streams, and plenty of hiking trails that crisscross through the park. With 793 acres and 13 miles of natural surfaces to walk, it should satisfy the most hardcore walkers. This area makes a good alternative for those who might not feel safe walking the side streets of this area.
