If your pup is bursting with energy, it’s time for a trip to the Del Rey Oaks Dog Park. Located within Del Rey Oaks Park, this fenced area gives your pooch space to run free. Bring a ball for fetch, or just let her mix and mingle with new four legged friends. Large and small dogs play together here. so if you have a small pup, make sure she’s okay rubbing shoulders with big dogs. When she’s finished playing, clip on her leash and stroll around the other areas of the park. The wide open lawns are perfect for sniffing around. The park also has a playground, sport courts, and barbecue facilities.

Del Monte

A trip to Laguna Grande Regional Park in Monterey will definitely make your pup’s day. Half the park is located in Monterey while the other half is in Seaside, and either side is about five minutes from Del Rey Oaks. The park’s main feature is a large freshwater lake surrounded by wetlands. Paved walking trails loop through the property and give your pup a great spot for a morning walk or jog. If he prefers splashing in the waves, head over to Monterey State Beach. Leashed pups are welcome to frolic anywhere south of Monterey Beach Hotel Resort. Three cheers for dog friendly beaches!

Just 10 minutes west of Del Rey Oaks is the El Estero Park. A favorite among locals, this Monterey park has a wide assortment of activities, including ball fields, picnic facilities, a skate park, playgrounds, and even paddle boats. Four legged visitors will love the 1.2 miles exercise trail. Or, if your pup is in the mood to run, check out the El Estero Dog Park. It’s on the small side, but this fenced area gives your pooch the chance to romp around without a leash. Water is not available, so make sure to bring some with you. Your pup will be thirsty after all that playing!

Old Town Monterey is a quick 15 minute drive from Del Rey Oaks. This part of town has enough dog friendly activities to keep your pup busy for hours. If he’s a history buff, learn all about Monterey with either Monterey Walking Tours or Monterey’s Free Walking Tours. Both companies guide you and your pooch around the local historic sites. For a truly pawsome experience, board the Monterey Bay Whale Watch tour and get a close look at the bay’s marine life. If your pup prefers the land over the sea, follow the Monterey Peninsula Recreational Trail. He’ll enjoy the stunning coastal scenery while getting in a great workout.

This Pacific Grove neighborhood is home to the Rip Van Winkle Open Space. Located just 20 minutes west of Del Rey Oaks, this beautiful natural area makes you forget you are surrounded by a busy city. Your pooch will love this puppy paradise. It has trails, sticks, and dirt. Best of all, dogs can explore this park without a leash! Your furry BFF can wander through groves of Cypress and pine trees while also getting the chance to meet new four legged friends. Keep an eye on your pup since there may be cyclists on the trail. Also, bring some water. The trail can be dusty and you don’t want a parched pooch!
