Golf

Golf

Harms Woods in Golf is a lovely spot for a hike with your dog, or a day out with the whole family for a picnic amongst the trees. The wooded park is bisected by the North Branch of the Chicago River, and offers up scenic views and plenty of wildlife to spot. There are two trails on the west side of the river, as well as two sections leading from the Harms Woods parking area on the east. The main trail heading south and an offshoot will take you on a 1.2 mile detour east around Harms Flatwoods. There are plenty of picnic areas, and restrooms are available near the carpark. Bring your water bottle and a drinking bowl for your pup, as well as your clean up bags.

Linne Woods sits just south of Golf in neighboring Morton Grove, and is a beautiful place to take a walk with your pup on the lead. The trails through here are well-maintained, taking you along the North Branch of the Chicago River and through wooded areas and prairies. The main trail cutting through here is a paved section of The North Branch Trail system, but there are other trails to explore as well. Pack your picnic to take a break at one of the groves or tables in the area, take plenty of water and don’t forget your clean up bags.

Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow Park in nearby Glenview is a great little spot for a walk through the woods, around the grassed area and over a stream. There are picnic areas here and a playground for little two-legged companions as well. For a nice hot cuppa or something to eat after your play at the park, check out Glenview Grind. There are six outdoor tables that welcome pets here, and plenty of tasty treats on the menu to tempt you. Flavored coffee, smoothies or juices will keep your thirst at bay, and a delicious cinnamon roll, bagel, yogurt or muffin will ensure your tummy is happy too!

The Glen

The Glen

Another beautiful park worth checking out in this area is Gallery Park in Glenview. There are paved walking trails circling Glenview Lake for a little on-lead stroll with your dog, and plenty of grassed areas in the 140-acre park for a fun game of catch or Frisbee. In the same area is Little Bear Park, which your human children will love to play at while you walk the surrounding paths with Fido. Adjacent to the park is a shopping centre where you will find several options for a pup-friendly lunch out. Eggsperience Pancakes and Café, Noodles & Company, Yard House, Potbelly Sandwich Shop and Forever Yoghurt all allow dogs at one of their outdoor tables while you enjoy your meal or refreshing drink.

Just five miles from Golf is the Community Bark West Dog Park in Glenview. Here, your pup can escape the lead and run to his heart’s content, burn off some energy and meet some new friends. You will first need to purchase a pass from the Glenview Park District, so go prepared with all of your dog’s veterinary paperwork. The fenced six-acre park is well-maintained and has walking paths throughout. There are water fountains for dogs and people, and waste disposal facilities on-site to keep the place clean for all users. You can supervise your pup while taking some time out at one of the benches or under the shelter.
