Techny

Techny is a charming neighborhood and one of the biggest in the Northbrook area. This lush area is home to over 100 acres of parkland, which includes a number of path systems with over 2 miles of trails to explore. Many of the features of the area don’t mind if you bring your precious pups along, but be sure to keep them on a leash while adventuring through Techny! This neighborhood brings together the perfect combination of outdoorsy and city life, so you can take in the gorgeous nature while enjoying the picnic areas or playgrounds with the whole family!

Central Glencoe

Want to enjoy the brisk Illinois air with your precious pups? Visit Central Glencoe, just 10 minutes away from Northbrook, and take a bike ride or explore the Green Bay Trail on two (or four) legs! Once an abandoned railroad corridor, this trail is now part of over 1,600 "rail-trails" which have been converted into walking paths by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. For energetic dogs that love a long walk, this pleasant trail isn’t too ruff on their paws. Plus, if you’re not too wiped after your outdoor adventures, you can take a short trip over to Little Red Hen to fetch some homemade treats on their pet-friendly patio.

Deerfield Park District

Are you looking for a gorgeous park that your whole family, fur babies included, can enjoy all year long? Deerfield is home to Jaycee Dog Park, which features plenty of space to play fetch with your dogs. In the winter, you can go ice-skating and play in the snow – just be sure to bundle everyone up! If you are feeling chilly, warm up with a cup of Joe from Newport Coffee House. Thinking about moving to the area? Deerfield has tons of pet-furriendly listings to choose from. Plus, you can rely on great local shops like the Pet People to stay stocked on necessities.

Beck Lake

Just south of Northbrook is the sophisticated village of Glenview. Alongside a beautiful view, there are a couple open space areas for your pet to run around in. There are two convenient locations for your pet to enjoy some off-leash fun: Community Bark West, located on the east of the tri-state 294, and the Beck Lake’s Dog Park on the west side. For a more free-spirit adventure, take the short walk to the Beck Lake off-leash area, where dogs can channel their wild ancestors while running around 40 acres of gorgeous greenery. The neighborhood is perfect for the outdoorsman and his dog!

East Thacker

The close-knit community of Des Plaines is a great place to take your pet for a nature hike and some quiet reflection near the Des Plaines River. The 56-mile long trail that runs alongside it is a great treat for your pets. There are plenty of rest stops and parking lots throughout the trail to make it both comfortable and convenient for both you and Fido. There are plenty of woodlands running alongside the highway and can also be explored – but keep an eye out for wildlife! For a different type of adventure, put on your Sunday best and visit St. Martin's Episcopal Church to enjoy a unique worship experience.
