Old Northeast Downtown
Old Northeast Downtown is right in the center of the bustling city of Bloomington, which is about 17 miles from Spencer. This neighborhood is filled with dog-friendly restaurants, like Dagwood’s Deli and Sub Shop and Bloomington Bagel Company, but you can also take your furry friend on an outdoor adventure at Griffy Lake Nature Preserve. This gorgeous spot allows leashed dogs in most areas, from the swimming areas to the walking trails. The park has 1,200 acres to explore, so you can spend a full day here and find plenty to do with your adventurous, outdoor-loving pup. The park also owns the nearby, off-leash Ferguson Dog Park.

Near West Side
Near West Side is another neighborhood of Bloomington, and it’s about a mile closer to Spencer than the Downtown area is. This area is a great place to find a paw-friendly hotel or restaurant. Tap Brewery and Craft Bar is a pupular spot for locals to hang out with friends – and their favorite pups! – while enjoying a large selection of beers and bar food. The Owlery is another pawfect place to have a casual meal in a fun environment. This one specializes in vegetarian and vegan options! Both places offer some comfy outdoor seating for leashed dogs and their owners.

Green Acres
Bloomington certainly has its share of dog-friendly restaurants to choose from, and Green Acres – which is about 18.5 miles from Spencer – is another neighborhood with more yummy dishes at your fingertips. Scholars Inn Bakehouse has some outdoor seating available on days with good weather for you to enjoy some casual foods. Or, head to Bloomingfoods, which is a grocery store-meets-restaurant that has some ready-to-go foods for you and your dog to enjoy at one of the outdoor tables. On a hot day, Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt provides the pawfect frozen treats to cool you off. Make it your own with the shop’s wide variety of toppings!

Downtown
Downtown Terre Haute is 42 miles from Spencer, so this is a place you might want to save for a day when you have extra time to spend with your pooch. The Downtown area has some pup-friendly hotels if you’re traveling to the area, but it also has some restaurants that welcome dogs. M. Mogger’s Restaurant and Pub is one of them, offering a super casual place to have a fun time with friends while eating your favorite kinds of pub food. There’s outdoor seating available for you and your dog. Your dog is also welcome on the National Road Heritage Trail for some outdoor exercise and exploration.
Sheridan Park
Around 40.5 miles from Spencer is the Sheridan Park neighborhood of Terre Haute, which is just up the road from the Downtown area. You can make this neighborhood a pit stop while traveling outside of Spencer because it’s the pawfect place to try some new foods at a dog-friendly restaurant. Java Haute is the place to go if you love coffee. This espresso bar offers a range of coffee drinks and yummy foods to start your day off on the right foot with your pup as your companion. Or, head to an outdoor table at Fifi’s Lunch Box, which makes many of its dishes with local ingredients.
