Wag! Walkers know Forest Hills

The neighborhood around Forest Hills Boulevard is a pleasant hilly area just north of Lake Avalon, between Camden Road and Cooper's Road. Forest Hills Boulevard is not an exceptionally busy road but cars do move quickly down it and there are no sidewalks. For more pleasant neighborhood walking it is a good idea to go off of Forest Hills Boulevard down one of the many smaller roads through the neighborhoods here.

Houses in this area are large and set back well off the road so even though there are no sidewalks along the little roads coming off of Forest Hills Boulevard, there is plenty of room to get out of the way of traffic.

If you are getting bored of neighborhood walking, you can take Camden Road off of Forest Hills Boulevard and go down to Lake Avalon for pleasant lakeside walking or even a quick swim. The lake is not large, but paths exist alongside it in several places so you and your dog can enjoy walking along the shoreline.

What is the terrain like in Forest Hills?

The terrain around Forest Hills Boulevard is gently rolling, with mature forest covering everywhere that has not been developed. Although almost all of the roads in this area, including Forest Hills Boulevard, do not have sidewalks, you can still enjoy walking or rolling along some of the quieter streets off of Forest Hills Boulevard. The gently rolling hills provide a perfect ride as long as you have enough control of your wheeled device and your dog to avoid crashing into the forest, which pushes in closely in most areas.

There aren't many trails through the forest here, so if you are looking for some hiking be ready for an intense experience. The forest tends to be thinner in winter so if you are longing for a forest hike the winter is a better time to try.

For a change, you can follow Camden Road South to Lake Avalon for some pleasant lakeside strolls or even a swim in the lake.

How many greenways are there in Forest Hills?

Pretty much everywhere that has not been developed around Forest Hills Boulevard is thick forest. While there aren't many paths through the forest, you can enjoy a lot of the forest views and catch a glimpse of wildlife just by walking along the streets around Forest Hills Boulevard. You are most likely to catch a glimpse of wildlife in the morning or evening.

Lake Avalon also provides a wonderful opportunity for a glimpse of nature and a more natural feeling hike with your dog. At the lake, you can see all sorts of seasonal waterfowl like ducks and geese and you may even catch a glimpse of deer, foxes, raccoons, or even elk coming down to drink.

If you are looking for even more opportunities to experience the wild, you can follow Camden Road to West Lancashire Blvd.,  where the Tanyard Creek Nature Trail Provides miles of paved hiking opportunities.
