Wag! Walkers know Rannoch

Rannoch is an attractive area situated around a figure eight shaped street, nestled on a finger of Loch Lomond Lake. The houses in Rannoch are large and set in the middle of expansive lots. The center of the circle that is made by Rannoch Drive is largely undeveloped and forested with mature trees. There are several areas around Rannoch where you can access the lake without having to cut through somebody's yard. On a hot Arkansas day, what could be better than walking along the lakeside with your dog?

Even walking along neighborhood streets can provide lovely views of the lake. You will also benefit from the cooling lake breezes on hot days. On cooler days, when you would rather seek shelter from the biting Arkansas winds, you can walk along the other half of the figure-eight made by Rannoch street. On this side of Rannoch, the trees provide great shelter from the wind and will amuse your dog with the smells of wildlife.

What is the terrain like in Rannoch?

Rannoch curves gently down towards the lake. The curve is substantial enough that you will notice it while you are walking along neighborhood streets, and especially if you cut through the woods.

The woods around Rannoch are thick, mature, and can be difficult to navigate. If you and your dog are seasoned hikers, you can take on these woods. Hiking is especially beautiful if you can find an area where the woods continue all the way down to the lake. Hiking along this area can be especially challenging, as the ground is often boggy right around the lake.

Make sure that you wear the proper footwear and protect yourself from ticks. It is also important that your dog has tick protection and has shots to protect her if she should drink the lake water.

If you would rather stick to the streets, walking around the neighborhood of Rannoch can be very pleasant. Although there are no sidewalks, the streets are wide and are only occupied by neighborhood traffic, so you can feel relatively safe walking your dog along the street.

How many greenways are there in Rannoch?

While most of the shoreline along the lake has been developed, you can find areas where the forest stretches all the way down to the shoreline. These are the best areas for spotting beautiful wildlife, especially bird life and deer and foxes that come down to the water to drink. The best time to see such wildlife by the lakeside is early morning and early evening.

Even if you do not hike near the water, walking around Rannoch is beautiful. While the forest may be too mature and thick for hiking, especially during the summer months, some areas are thin enough for easy navigation for experienced hikers. The forest is especially pleasant in the winter months, when you will enjoy taking shelter from cold Arkansas winds, and your dog will enjoy smelling all of the wild smells of the forest.

The summer months are a wonderful time to take your dog on a canoe or walk along the shoreline, to see the bird life that lives in the lake and enjoy the forest views from the water.
