Settled just South of the border between Arkansas and Missouri, Selkirk winds up to the East and then towards the West to mark both the entrance and the exit of a moderately rural neighborhood that is well out of the way. While there is access to a recreation center just outside of the neighborhood and a general store just a bit down the road, Selkirk is not for those who are looking for the hustle and bustle of the city. Those interested in a quiet stroll through an incredibly green area may enjoy the winding road through the trees. With muggy summers and cold winter temperatures that drop into the twenties, it may help to be prepared before going for your walk. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, a small stroll off the beaten path can even take you into Missouri.

The hills run rampant in this area of Arkansas and anyone strolling along Selkirk Drive should be prepared for quite a workout. The road winds in multiple directions, both uphill and downhill at different turns, and though it is paved throughout, it can take some effort to work your way through the whole route. While there are homes that are scattered up and down Selkirk, much of the road is wooded on either side of the pavement, so caution is advised if you opt to explore away from the main path as hills can drop off sharply or lead into dense areas that are difficult to navigate. In the summer, the pavement may rise in temperature and can cause damage to sensitive feet or paws. Wearing appropriate shoes can help cut down on any burns or other injuries caused by rough terrain.

While there are no parks or other city-provided areas in the immediate vicinity, Bella Vista does provide the Branchwood Recreation Center, which is just down the road and offers a walking trail and some open fields for exercise and running around. None of the areas are fenced in, however, so keeping your pup on-leash is recommended. Selkirk Drive itself is all but engulfed in trees and is surrounded by wooded areas, which can offer space for quick bathroom breaks for an eager canine companion. Visibility is limited in these wooded areas, so take a flashlight for night time strolls or a stick, which can help part the way for curious excursions. Overall, the paved road will generally provide everything you’re looking for, provided a nice, nature-filled view is on your wishlist. While Selkirk may be fairly far removed, Bella Vista is a beautiful city for anyone looking for Southwestern appeal.
