Wag! Walkers know Lowry
Lowry is a sprawling neighborhood east of Denver, Colorado. About a quarter of this neighborhood is taken up by the Common Ground Golf Course in the southeast corner. Another quarter of the neighborhood is devoted to the grounds of the Community College of Aurora. Much of the acreage separating the campus from the neighborhood is devoted to a natural preserve, so there is an unusual amount of grassy space in this otherwise populated area of Denver. There are not many businesses in this area, but a few are clustered along Quebec Street and on East 11th Avenue.
Within the area bordering the college, Lowry Dog Park offers a great place for your dog to play. There is a separate area for dogs with higher energy and those with lower so you can find a playgroup that will match your dog's personality. Nearby, Dog Training with Eric can have even the stubbornest dog behaving well!
What is the terrain like in Lowry?
Because of the many public facilities in this neighborhood, blocks are laid out a bit strangely. Most of the blocks within this neighborhood are planned and follow curving, laid-out streets. Homes in the northern and southern part of Lowry are large and streets are wide but not heavily trafficked, making the flat terrain ideal for a daily stroll.
Almost all yards are unfenced, so you will enjoy walking your dog on a loose leash or bicycling, skateboarding, or rollerblading at their side in this part of the neighborhood. In the center of the community, Crescent Park offers diversity in the terrain to break up the monotony of sidewalks and streets. Areas of the neighborhood with apartment buildings are also nice to walk through, as they provide lots of grassy space around the buildings for quick potty breaks or a reprieve from snowy or icy sidewalks which can occur in the winter months.
How many greenways are there in Lowry?
Lowry is a lovely neighborhood with lots of green space around individual homes as well as plenty of public natural spaces. Sections of the neighborhood on the north and south sides both have their own parks but for a much more natural space, just head towards the east side of the neighborhood. Much of this area is taken up with a golf course, but lovely fields and a marshy pond provide plenty of room to explore.
Lowry Dog Park is here as well so your dog can play off-leash with their friends. Further north, the Great Lawn Park offers a huge grassy expanse with a charming little stream running along it. The stream extends north through several acres until the Aurora Keller Reservoir which has a natural marshy area around it as well. This combination of open space and marsh is a great place for all sorts of bird life with few trees to block your view.
