Wag! Walkers know Sun Valley
Sun Valley is located in West Denver. However, it is centrally located, and not far from the downtown core, although walkability to the central business district is impeded by the lake and major freeways in the area. There are lots of businesses and services with most of the commercial activity located on the south side of the region.
Denver dog walkers experience all four seasons and sudden changes in weather conditions are possible. Summers are warm and beautiful for walking most of the time, however, extreme heat can occur and afternoon thunderstorms are not uncommon. Check forecasts, be sky aware, and take shelter when severe weather approaches. Winters are cool with temperatures below or around the freezing mark with snow which can make walkways treacherous. Warm snaps happen when Chinook winds occur and are enjoyed by locals and their canine companions as they bring warmer temperatures. Daytime highs and lows range due to the city's altitude and location near the mountains.
What is the terrain like in Sun Valley?
Most of the residential buildings in the central section of Sun Valley consist of public housing complexes. Residential areas have landscaping and trees, while commercial areas do not and are more exposed and heavily paved.
There are pedestrian sidewalks throughout the neighborhood providing safe walkways for people and their pets. The river on the east side is a dominant landscape feature and several creeks flow into the river with associated greenways. A light rail train line services the area and tracks should only be crossed at designated pedestrian crossings. Freeways on the communities borders also pose an impediment to pedestrian travel.

A little further to the west, the walking path takes you and your pup to the Paco Sanchez Park located on Sun Valley's west border.
Frog Hollow Park is also located on the east side of Sun Valley and provides 5.7 acres of natural area along the river and is accessible from the Platte River Trail which runs through it.
