Dog walkers can enjoy the beautiful countryside and wilderness areas that surround their homes but need to be prepared for variable weather conditions. Bella Vista experiences plenty of sunshine with relatively few rainy days. However, when rain occurs, it can be heavy and pedestrians need to be prepared with good rain gear to stay dry. Cold winter temperatures with snow require warm outerwear and footwear to keep warm while strolling around Bella Vista.
Sunderland is a residential, rural neighborhood surrounded by hilly terrain and wooded areas. The neighborhood is peaceful with a very suburban, country-like feel. Properties are large and well landscaped although they are closer set than many other Bella Vista neighborhoods. There is still plenty of natural areas and wildlife in the region and locals may find their pets share their yards with all sorts of local critters.
Sunderland Drive has some inclines but the main residential road in the neighborhood is not particularly steep compared to the surrounding wooded, hilly areas and pedestrians can navigate it without steep climbs. There are, however, no sidewalks on the residential road to keep pedestrians separate from vehicles. When walking your dog, keep your pet close to you, leashed, and watch for traffic.
A golf course and complex is situated on the north side of the Sunderland community and provides more manicured landscaping to the region.
The Back 40s Trail Bench is located just south of Sunderland and is popular with local mountain bikers. Sunderland hikers and hounds can also use the trail but should be vigilant for cyclists.
A little to the southwest, the Bella Vista Lake Park features a 1.8-mile paved pedestrian trail that is accessible for walkers of all ability levels and there are facilities like porta-potties, doggie waste stations, pavilions, and picnic sites, as well as fishing and kayaking activity on the beautiful lake. Also located in this region is the Blowing Spring Trail, a more difficult looping trail with rocky, rough terrain and elevation changes that can be a great challenge for energetic pups in the Bella Vista area.
