The homes in Barnes Hayes lay at the corner of Jefferson and Ridgewood Avenues. This is a townhouse community sitting beside the busiest road running along the coast. The townhouses occupy a large part of the lots they stand on with concrete driveways in front and tiny yards in the back. There might be enough room for your pooch to go potty out there, but that is about all the space you have.

There are four city parks within walking distance where you and your dog are welcome, providing your dog is on a leash. Most of the city parks even provide doggy bags and have waste receptacles to put them in.

Shopping can be found a few minutes to the south on the West Cocoa Beach Causeway. Here, there is a shopping center with a Winn Dixie supermarket where you can stock the pantry, the fridge, and find a selection of dog foods and treats for your pup.

Living on the side of Ridgewood Avenue means three things. It means lots of traffic all day long, plenty of traffic noise, and even the smells that come with so much congestion which can definitely be unpleasant. Walking your dog along this street can be harder on your dog than you realize!

A much better choice would be to try and take your walks within the residential areas away from Ridgewood Avenue. While you will still encounter some traffic, it will be significantly less. Some of the streets even have sidewalks for the two of you to use. The best thing you can do is choose only those streets with sidewalks as it will help make your strolls safer and less stressful. With the distinct lack of hills in the area, you should have a great time with the exercise that your daily walks will provide.

The nearest park is two blocks to the north. Cherie Down Park covers almost seven acres and is listed as a community beach-access park. Along with plenty of parking, picnic pavilions, and access to the beach for humans where you can walk in the sun, go swimming, or hit the surf, there is plenty of open space for you and your dog to make use of. Just keep in mind that city ordinances do not allow dogs on the beach itself.

While the parking lot at Cherie Down Park does tend to fill up quickly, it's not something you have to worry about as you and your dog can walk to the park! The park also offers outdoor showers to wash off the salt and sand at the end of the day and lifeguards on the weekends during the summer months. The entire area is kept very clean, including the public restrooms and the showers. This is a great place to take your dog for a little play time.
