The Villagio Townhomes sit on the corner of North Atlantic and Washington Avenues. This is a bustling area of town with many businesses lining both sides of both Atlantic Avenue and Astronaut Boulevard. Most are small shops, bars, restaurants, and gas stations. The townhomes are even four blocks from the beach where you will find Cherie Down Park, a space for you and your dog to play.

If you go south on Astronaut Boulevard, your journey will take you past a Publix Supermarket and from there to West Cocoa Beach Causeway. This road will take you to Merritt Island where the local Walmart can be found and, from there, the Merritt Island Mall and many other shopping opportunities.

From the causeway, you can also access the Kiwanis Island Park and the Ulumay Wildlife Sanctuary where you will find plenty of room for you, your family, and your furball to hike and enjoy getting back to nature.

Given the location of the townhomes along North Atlantic Avenue, it should come as no surprise to you that traffic tends to be hectic throughout the day. There are several slots of time when the traffic can be congested. These not only include the typical rush hours, but they also include times when the cruise liners are preparing to sail or have just returned from their journeys.

While most of the traffic generated by the cruise lines takes A1A, also known as the Martin Anderson Beachline Expressway, that goes directly over the Banana and Indian Rivers, a percentage of it comes south in search of ways to avoid the congestion. With this in mind, you should plan to keep your walks to within the residential areas to the east and south.

Most of the roads here do have sidewalks along the flat terrain where you and your dog will be able to enjoy your walks in relative safety together.

Directly to the east of the Villagio Townhomes is a large undeveloped lot filled with shade trees and grass. While some park their vehicles here, it also makes a good spot to take your dog for a quick potty break and for a little exercise.

A four-minute drive to the west is two parks where you and your dog are welcome to come and enjoy. They both offer plenty of grass for the two of you to run about on and play. Manatee Sanctuary Park even has a lake and paved walking trails for you to use, while Banana River Park is mostly a large grass sports field.

If you like the idea of letting your dog run around off-leash, the Cocoa Beach Public Dog Park is less than 15 minutes to the south on A1A. There are two fenced-in areas, plenty of shady seating, and water for the dogs to enjoy throughout their stay.
