River Falls Estates is a triangular shaped community just off South Orlando Avenue in the southernmost part of the city. The homes here are large and upscale, sitting around a small lake. There is one road into the community, Indian Village Trails, that leads to River Falls Drive which ends in a cul-de-sac. Whether the houses sit on the small lake or the river, they are all waterfront in one way or another. Those on the river or the canal have docks for boats and fishing.
One issue with living this far south is that there isn't much in the way of shopping opportunities. While this might sound like a problem, in reality, it's only a few minutes to the nearest grocery stores on both sides of the Minuteman Causeway. Alternatively, you can cruise north to the West Cocoa Beach Causeway where there is a small shopping center and a Winn-Dixie supermarket where you can find food for everyone in your family.
This is a very tranquil neighborhood with no sidewalks for you and your dog to go for walks on. Traffic here is limited to residents and only gets busy during the morning and evening rush hours. However, since there are no sidewalks available, you'll want to exercise caution as you'll be restricted to sharing the roads with passing vehicles.
For basic walks, staying in the triangle should provide enough exercise, but if you want to go for distance, you can walk east to A1A where there is a cement path that runs through the entire city. The path is wide enough for you and your dog to walk along, even if there are other pedestrians on it with you. The flat terrain makes it easy to navigate for pups of any ability level. Try to keep your walks to the early morning hours when the traffic is lighter and the air is cooler.
The only green space within walking distance is the beach. You and your dog can make the walk in ten minutes! If you plan to take your dog for a walk on the sandy dunes, be sure you keep them on a short leash and pick up any messes they make. Keep in mind that dogs are only allowed on the beach for a few select hours out of the day, so you'll want to pay attention to the regulations of the area.
The nearest park is Ramp Road Park off of South Brevard Avenue. It's only a ten-minute drive and has a lot to offer your entire family! There are playgrounds for the kids, basketball and tennis courts for the sports enthusiasts, a boat ramp for kayaks, canoes, and other watercraft, and, most importantly, there are acres of grass for you and your dog to romp around on.
