The intersection of South Atlantic Avenue and South 24th Street is close to the narrowest part of the peninsula and is a residential area. The homes in this area consist of a blend of single-family houses, apartments, townhomes, and on-the-beach condos. 24th Street is short and ends just before the Banana River. Those who live here have an excellent view of the water and the many boats that venture by daily. At the other end of 24th Street is the beach.

The one issue with living here is the lack of essential amenities nearby, beyond a couple of restaurants. The nearest Publix supermarket is approximately four and a half miles north on A1A, but you can stock the pantry with food along with chow for your pooch and their favorite treats. If you stop at the Minuteman Causeway, you will find plenty of small stores and places to grab a bite to eat.

In this area, you are still likely to see a fair amount of traffic despite being so far from the city center. This is due to the fact that you live next to A1A, the main highway running down the entire coast of Florida. At this point, A1A is a four-lane highway that you can count on being very busy during rush hours, especially with Patrick Air Force Base being on the other side of a narrow stretch of land.

On the east side of the highway, there is a wide sidewalk for you and your dog to use for your daily walks. The sidewalk runs for miles to the north and into Crescent Beach to the south, giving you and your pooch plenty of space to walk. You'll find a few more areas of grass nearby to use for a quick pit stop if you need it. The lack of elevation in this area should make it easy to find them.

The nearest green space is the beach to the east. Here, you and your dog can enjoy hiking along the surf for mile after mile, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. Many use the soft sand as a way to get their exercise for the day and then use the wet, hard-packed sand for a gentle stroll along the edge of the water for the return journey. When walking your dog on the beach, they must on a leash and you are required to clean up after them.

If your dog likes to socialize with others, the Cocoa Beach Public Dog Park is just under four miles to the north. The fenced-in area of the park covers a little under three-quarters of an acre and is sectioned off into areas for large dogs, small dogs, and a gated entry area with a rinsing station to cool your dog down and rinse off the sand and dust when it's time to head home.
