Grandview Heights is a well-established single-family house community along Indian River Drive in full view of the river itself. This is a strictly residential area full of families and at least a few family dogs! Many of the homes here have large shady yards with plenty of room for the family pooch to run around. Most of the houses in the neighborhood sit along Grandview Boulevard which ends in a cul-de-sac. This helps keep traffic to a minimum.

Although US-1 is nearby, most of the business at this point along the highway are not places to shop or eat. The exception is the Cocoa Marketplace, a small local supermarket where you should be able to find most of what you need for your family. For everything else, there is a Walmart Supercenter less than ten minutes away on the west side of US-1 where you should be able to find the rest, including your pup's favorite food and treats.

The one thing you won't have to deal with on your walks with your dog is traffic within the community. Although there aren't any sidewalks to use, leaving you to use the road, it stays relatively quiet on most days. Rather than stick to walking your dog along just Grandview Boulevard, you can plan to take your walks along the water on the east side of Indian River Drive. The grassy area is reasonably wide here and is covered in places with bushes and trees, making it cool and shady with no real steep hills to traverse.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are plenty of residential neighborhoods nearby where you can take your dog for walks if you don't want to walk along the river. No matter where you choose to walk, your pup should always be on a short leash in this area as it can be busy in certain spaces.

The nearest off-leash dog park is a six-minute drive south on Clearlake Road. Conveniently called Barks and Recreation, the park sits on an ample green space next to a lake. There are separate areas of the park for large and small breeds with plenty of shade and water, along with seating for you and your pals while you wait for your pup to finish running around!

On the other side of US-1, there is a vast area of undeveloped land with multiple lakes dotting the area. There are numerous walking trails running through and around the lakes for you and your dog when you need a change of pace.

In Cocoa Beach, the beaches from 4th Street South to South 16th Street are open to dogs from 6 to 10 AM and 5 to 7PM. These hours are extended until 9PM during daylight savings time to give you more time in the evening to go for walks!
