The Lapham Park neighborhood straddles Cocoa Boulevard, a few blocks south of King Street. It is a mix of residential, industrial, and retail businesses in a strip mall that lines the west side of this roadway. The community is also split by the tracks belonging to the FEC railroad. The homes in both halves of Lapham Park are older single-family houses with large yards that are perfect for raising a family, including a family pooch.

If you live in the eastern half of Lapham Park, there is a small strip mall on the west side of Cocoa Boulevard with a restaurant, but nothing in the way of essentials. The nearest grocery store is a Publix, five minutes to the south, or a Walmart, ten minutes to the north. If you are looking for a pet supply store, there are several about ten minutes away, including a Tractor Supply Company and MYDOGSWAG, a pet store dedicated to all things dog.

Any way you look at it, this is not a very quiet section of town. Being this close to the intersection of King Street and US-1 means dealing with a lot of traffic and the noise it generates during the day. Whether you live in the eastern half or the western half, you and your pup have plenty of sidewalks you can use for your daily strolls together. Keep in mind that the residential streets on both sides of the neighborhood tend to have significant traffic in the mornings and evenings as those who live in the neighborhood head to or return from work.

As tempting as it might be for those who live in the western half of Lapham Park, the railroad tracks are no place to take your pooch out for long walks. Not only would you be trespassing, but with trains running by you, it is not a safe place to venture.

There are vacant lots covered with grass on both sides of the community where the two of you might get away with walking and playing, especially if you clean up after your dog. However, do keep in mind that these lots are all private property, even if no one has seen the owners in years. On the western side of the tracks, you and your dog can walk to the Joe Lee Rec Center where there is a grass softball field you can play on. Keep your pup on a leash and carry waste bags with you.

A much better choice might be Barks and Recreation on Pluckebaum Road. This very popular dog park sits on a vast, undeveloped area with a lake the two of you can walk around. Both sides of the fenced-in area are easily big enough to allow for lots of dogs to play and they have water fountains for when the pups need a drink.
