Westover Heights is a small residential neighborhood one block south of bustling Dixon Boulevard, consisting of two blocks. The homes here are single-family houses with the exception of a mobile home community. The yards here are more than big enough for the family dog to run around in and there are plenty of shade trees. To the south is Tropical Court, the large mobile home community and, to the north, there are the many businesses sitting on the corners of Dixon and Clearlake.

Speaking of shopping, when you need food for your family, including your fluffball, you can walk to Harvey's Supermarket. It's literally on the other side of Reid Street from the residential spaces in Westover Heights. The shopping center is also home to the From Scratch Restaurant and the Empire Health Mart. However, if you need more than you can find here, there is the typical Walmart Supercenter that sits less than ten minutes to the north on Clearlake Road.

Within Westover Heights, the ground is flat with mostly wide-open yards. Once you leave the neighborhood, things change fast. Clearlake Road is a busy street, as is Dixon to the north. Both link the many residential communities in this area of Cocoa to the rest of town. Rush hours out here tend to be more than a little crazy as everyone seems to leave for work at the same time. Neither the morning or evening rush hours are a good time to take your dog out for their daily walks.

None of the nearby neighborhoods have sidewalks for the two of you to use as the only streets with a sidewalk on both sides are Clearlake and Dixon. Once the mad rush is over in the morning and traffic has settled down to a dull roar, you should be able to put your dog on a short leash and go for long walks together in relative safety.

How you make use of the nearby green space created by the FPL high tension lines is up to you. The trail along the swath of treeless ground starts on the other side of Clearlake and runs all the way to the vast undeveloped area by I-95. You and your dog can walk for miles in this direction, but do remember that you must be able to cover the same distance on the return trip, so plan accordingly!

If your walks take you in this direction, there are areas along the way where you can feel like you are deep in the countryside. Along the way, you will also encounter a few lakes, but these are not ideal for swimming. There are alligators in some of them that would be more than happy to enjoy a morning or afternoon snack. Remember to give wildlife a wide berth and enjoy other, safer avenues instead.
