The Crescent Area Historic District, located in Plainfield, New Jersey, is a residential area centered around Crescent Avenue. The community is highly walkable and many locals recognize it as the 'heart' of Plainfield. Although the beautiful homes provide a fascinating walking destination, there are also several restaurants, a pharmacy, and a grocer located in the northwest of the district along Park Avenue that locals can access on foot.
If you walk your puppy pal in the area regularly, you will get to experience all four seasons in Plainfield. The town gets more than the national average of rain per year and spring rains are common while winter sees an average of 23 inches of snow per year. When walking your dog in the Crescent Area, you will want warm, waterproof outerwear and footwear. An umbrella and raincoat will be a good idea for wet springs. Summers are much warmer and drier but can be humid for on foot travel.
The community is a historic district and contains many homes displaying varying architecture from the Victorian era. This suburban neighborhood has diverse homes featuring characteristics from a variety of cultural influences. Many have Venetian influences with an ornate facade, towers, villas, and arched features with classical Italian motifs. Others homes feature Carpenter Gothic and Stick Style American styles and there are some English Queen Anne and Edwardian style homes also located in the neighborhood. Landscaping on these historic properties reflects the style of the homes and the neighborhood with gardens, lawns, and large trees on properties. Large shade trees line the roads which provide shade for passersby walking their dogs.
If you are looking for longer greenways, the Cedar Brook Park is located just to the south of the Crescent Area. This park is also part of a historic district and beautiful homes and properties border it. There are several athletic fields and sports facilities located here with lots of open space to run with your pooch. Green Brook Park is located to the west and has a creek running through it.
If you are looking for some off-leash fun with your canine companion, the Central Bark Dog Park is further west. Although this park is not within walking distance and must be accessed by vehicle, many Plainfield residents take their dogs to this area to let them have a little off-leash recreation.
