Wag! Walkers know Banyan Cove
Banyan Cove is a modest-sized townhouse community just off Astronaut Boulevard on Riverside Drive. The townhomes on the west end of the cul-de-sac have a great view of the Banana River and there is a community fishing dock jutting out into the water. Each unit has access to a tiny backyard, but there isn't enough room for your dog to do anything but use it for a quick pit stop.
To the north on Astronaut Boulevard, there are a few small stores, several restaurants, and thousands of parking spaces for use by the countless tourists who come to Cape Canaveral for their cruise ship vacations. When you need a grocery store, pharmacy, or department store, a trip south on the same road will take you to just about everything you and your family could possibly need, including food and treats for the most important member of your family: your family pooch!
What is the terrain like in Banyan Cove?
Astronaut Boulevard is, without a doubt, the busiest road in town. It's a four-lane highway also known as Florida State Road A1A. There are many reasons why this highway is so busy. To start with, it is the main north-south highway on this side of town. It is also packed with parking lots for those going on cruises. On days when the ships are leaving or arriving, traffic can be insane.
Add in the fact that the number of locals who use this road during rush hour and you may find that neither you nor your dog will feel comfortable walking along this busy highway. If you do choose to take your walks along this road, be sure you always keep them on a short leash. Not only will this help you to maintain better control, but it will also give your dog a sense of security that might help them to remain calm on your walks.
How many greenways are there in Banyan Cove?
With most of the city parks allowing dogs on a leash, the nearest are five minutes to the north on A1A. The first is Manatee Sanctuary Park where you and your dog can use the paved walkways to go around the lake or you can use the grassy areas to run about on.
Right next door is Banana River Park where there is more than enough grass for the two of you to enjoy. Along with a field large enough for a soccer pitch, there is a children's playground, shuffleboard courts, and other amenities. Both parks offer a spectacular view of the boats going by on the river itself.
Just to the south on Center Street is the Center Street Park. This is a tiny park with a gazebo, a small area of grass, and the perfect place to sit in the shade while you watch the traffic out on the water going by.
