Wag! Walkers know Beach Park Village

The small community of Beach Park Village is right next door to Cape View Elementary School. It sits on the west side of Ridgewood Avenue with the Atlantic coast and beach in clear view. This is a townhouse community sitting on Chandler Street and Cherie Down Lane.  Each unit has a small front and backyard and all units have a single-car garage along with a private driveway.

Living here might put you within walking distance of the beach, but you can’t take your dog there for walks as there are city ordinances in place that forbid it. Fortunately, the city recently passed a law allowing dogs in all city parks if they are on a leash! There are several small parks in town with just enough room for you and your dog to run around and get in a little exercise. Fortunately, there are larger parks you can take your dog to, including a public dog park in Cocoa Beach ten minutes to the south.

What is the terrain like in Beach Park Village?

Within Beach Park Village, there isn't much in the way of grass beyond the tiny yards, the road, and driveways between the two rows of townhouses which take up the majority of the ground. This is a bustling part of town with Ridgewood Avenue to the east and an elementary school to the south. Between tourists, regular rush hour, and school bus traffic, things can be pretty hectic around here during the day.

Along with vehicular traffic, you and your dog are likely to encounter a fair amount of pedestrian traffic in the form of tourists and locals heading to and from the beach along with kids playing in the residential areas. In either case, keeping your dog on a short leash is the best way for you to keep them under control and eliminate the risk of someone getting hurt. Fortunately, there are lots of sidewalks for you to use so you won't be walking on the streets!

How many greenways are there in Beach Park Village?

There are several small parks within the city limits. Cherie Down Park is within walking distance and has plenty of room to run about. On the west side, both Manatee Sanctuary Park and Banana River Park have walking paths and lots of grass. Manatee Sanctuary Park also has a couple of small lakes the two of you can walk around.

If you hop on A1A and head back towards the mainland, you can take your pup for long hikes in the 436 acres that make up the Ulumay Wildlife Sanctuary. This area was once home to the Ais Indians who are known to have vanished in the early 18th century. Today, there is a natural lagoon, a man made waterway with a hiking trail for you and your dog to use, and several canals created to assist with mosquito control. There are many animals to be seen here, so be cautious when you bring your dog for a hike in the fresh air!
