Wag! Walkers know Ocean Gardens Wave
Barnes Hayes is a small townhouse community on the corner of Jefferson and Ridgewood Avenues. Like most townhomes, these have largely paved driveways that take up virtually the entire front yard and almost no backyard for your dog to use. To make matters even more challenging, Jefferson Avenue has almost nothing in the way of sidewalks for you and your pup to use for your daily walks.
While your home might only be one block from Cape View Middle School and the beach, you are also ten minutes from the nearest shopping. Most of the essential shopping can be found on the West Cocoa Beach Causeway and from there, north on Astronaut Boulevard. Between these locations, you will find both a Winn Dixie and Publix Supermarket, multiple local and chain stores, and plenty of excellent places to take your family out for a meal when no one in the house feels like cooking or you're in the mood for something a little different.
What is the terrain like in Ocean Gardens Wave?
One of the best things about living on this side of the city is that, while traffic can be very busy along Ridgewood Avenue, especially during rush hours, it's nothing in comparison to the traffic to the west on Astronaut Boulevard. One of the reasons there is less traffic here is that Ridgewood serves the various residential communities and condos, but there aren't many businesses. Plus, Ridgewood doesn't go all the way north to the cruise ship ports, but the terrain remains flat and easy to navigate either way.
However, unless your dog is used to walking near busy roads with lots of traffic, you would do better to keep your walks to within the residential areas where at least some of the roads have sidewalks.
One thing to keep in mind is that the beaches in Cape Canaveral are not dog-friendly. The city does not allow dogs on the sand, but there are plenty of parks to walk in nearby.
How many greenways are there in Ocean Gardens Wave?
Along with passing ordinances restricting all dogs from the beach, in 2018, the city also passed laws allowing all dogs on a leash into most city parks! The city has even gone so far as to install dog waste bag dispensers and receptacles in most parks.
The nearest park is Cherie Down Park, a few blocks to the north on Ridgewood. The park offers plenty of parking, direct access to the beach, and a vast area of grass for you and your dog to run about on. There are even public restrooms available for your use.
To the south on the corner of Monroe and Magnolia, you will find the City Center Park, Sandpiper Park, and the Cape Canaveral Baseball Park. These three parks combine to create a vast area for you and your dog to enjoy. Along with walking paths and plenty of grass to run around on, there are restrooms and you never know when you might be able to catch a game!
