The Ocean Mist Townhouses sit on the corner of Ridgewood Avenue and Chandler Street. The beach is only a block to the east, but public access is one block to the south on Washington Avenue. You should be aware that the beaches of Cape Canaveral are closed to all dogs except service animals, however, you can take your pup down to Cherie Down Park where there is plenty of room for both of you to play and stretch your legs.
Until you get further to the south, you won't find any shops or places to eat. Most of them are either on A1A or the West Cocoa Beach Causeway. Along these two roads, you will find supermarkets, big-box retail stores, and lots of restaurants to choose from. If you need the many things offered in a Walmart Supercenter, the nearest one is in Merritt Island on the other end of the causeway.

One of the many benefits of living this far north has to be the lack of traffic during most of the day. The only things that are this far north on Ridgewood Avenue are condos, resorts, townhouses, and residential areas. A lot of locals live up here, so you and your dog might want to avoid taking your walks during the daily rush hours as Ridgewood Avenue tends to be a bustling road during these times.
Rather than deal with the traffic on Ridgewood, the two of you can head west along Chandler Boulevard and back into the residential area where there is even less traffic and plenty of sidewalks along flat terrain which is easy to navigate. Be aware that the Cape View Elementary School is less than a block away, so you may need to keep your pup on a short leash to stay out of the way of passing pedestrians.

This park covers an area measuring 32,000 square feet and is divided into areas for small and large dogs. There are water hoses, chairs for those who go about on two feet, and plenty of shade. There is even rinse station to wash the dust, sand, and saltwater from your dog's coat before you go home!
