The Ocean Oaks Condominiums is a large condo complex at the northern end of Ridgewood Avenue. The condos offer tennis courts, shuffleboard courts, a swimming pool and hot tub, and plenty of manicured lawns for you and your dog to make use of. The condos also offer a boardwalk that will take you down to the beach where you and your family can swim, surf, and take long hikes on the sand.
Living here puts you a ten to fifteen-minute drive from the central shopping areas of Cape Canaveral on the West Cocoa Beach Causeway and Astronaut Boulevard. There are a few small stores and restaurants along this roadway and a few more along the waterfront in the port. You can access these by taking North Atlantic Avenue to the port area. Most of your other options are along either Scallop Drive or Glen Cheek Drive where the smaller charter boats dock.
Being at the end of Ridgewood Avenue means dealing with a lot less traffic than you might see elsewhere in town. There is a small amount of rush hour traffic coming from the nearby residential areas but, beyond this, you and your dog should be able to enjoy using the sidewalks along Ridgewood during most of the day. The flat terrain enables pups of all ability levels to navigate with ease.
The best time of day to go walking during the hottest months of the year is in the early morning hours before rush hour. Not only will the two of you have to deal with far less traffic, but even on the hottest day of the summer, it's much cooler. It's a great time of day for both of you to get out and stretch your legs while enjoying the fresh air. The neighborhood itself is straightforward, so you'll be able to find your way no matter what.
The grounds around the Ocean Oaks Condo are carefully manicured and you and your dog can walk around on them, but be sure you pick up any messes Fido may leave behind. Since city ordinances do not permit dogs on the beach, you have no choice but to make use of the few city parks in town. All parks are dog-friendly, providing they are on a leash. The nearest is Cherie Down Park, two minutes south on Ridgewood Avenue.
On the other side of the peninsula is the Banana River Park and Manatee Sanctuary Park. Both parks have plenty of grass for the two of you to enjoy and an excellent view of the Banana River. The Manatee Sanctuary Park also has a large lake with a walking path around it and the rest of the park for the two of you make good use of. There are public restrooms and picnic pavilions for everyone to use as well.
