Top dog walkers in SaDunes
Wag! Walkers know SaDunes
Sand Dunes is a small neighborhood of townhomes and a large condominium building on the beach. The condo building sits on the sand with the townhomes closer to Ridgewood Avenue. The entire area is in the approximate midpoint of the city. Buchanan Avenue, the main residential street, ends with a public parking lot and beach access. You can be on the dunes in three minutes and in the water in four. Unfortunately, you can't take your dog with you as they are not permitted on Cape Canaveral beachfronts.
Shopping opportunities are within driving distance and it's ten minutes to the West Cocoa Beach Causeway where you will find grocery stores, big-box retailers, and restaurants. If you still can't find everything you need, just keep going west on the causeway over the river and into Merritt island. There, you will find the Merritt Island Mall and the ever-present Walmart Supercenter to visit whenever you need a few of the essentials.
What is the terrain like in SaDunes?
Ridgewood Avenue tends to be a bustling stretch of road during the day with the usual rush hour madness to go with it. You have a choice when it comes to where to take your dog walking. You can cross Ridgewood and walk in the nearby neighborhoods where many of the streets have flat sidewalks for you and your dog to use as you will find these areas significantly quieter and safer to walk along.
Alternatively, you can use the wide sidewalk that runs along the east side of Ridgewood. The sidewalks are relatively new and part of a recent beautification project. In most areas, the pavement is separated from the road to protect both of you from the traffic. You should always be sure to keep your dog on a short leash in case the traffic should startle them and make them attempt to run out into the road.
How many greenways are there in SaDunes?
The nearest greenway for you to use is the beach that starts at the end of your street. You can use it for hikes, going surfing, and going swimming, but you can't use it to take your dog for walks. Because of the ban on dogs along the coast, in 2018, the city passed an ordinance that allows dogs in the city parks as long as they are on a leash! The city has also installed pet waste bag dispensers and receptacles in most of the parks for you to use.
The nearest off-leash dog park is ten minutes to the south in Cocoa Beach. This dog park features sections for large and small dogs along with water hoses and plenty of chairs for you to sit on. The park is also the perfect place in Cocoa Beach to go when you want to take your dog on the sand for long walks along the water's edge.
