Avon by the Sea is a large section of condos, townhouses, and a couple of restaurants. It is also home to the Westgate Cocoa Beach Pier. Here, you can enjoy a meal at the Seafood Restaurant on the pier or go saltwater fishing before hitting the bar at the end of the boardwalk. Living here also puts you north of the West Cocoa Beach Causeway and close to Cape Canaveral.
One of the advantages of living here is that there is a Publix Supermarket right across the street where you should be able to buy anything your family needs to keep your kitchen stocked. They also stock a large supply of premium brand dog foods and treats for your pooch! There are several local and chain restaurants within walking distance that are worth visiting. To find more shopping than this, there are many more options to the south on the West Cocoa Beach Causeway.
There is a lot of pavement in Avon by the Sea with so many condos and hotels, along with a massive parking lot in front of the pier. The one thing you can count on is that, at all times of the day, you and your dog are likely to run into a lot of traffic. The pier draws a lot of people in but there are sidewalks you and your dog should make good use of. While you can walk along A1A on the sidewalks, unless your dog is used to walking near bustling traffic, you may want to keep your walks along Ridgewood which is a little less traveled.
Being a largely tourist and temporary resident area, you and your dog are likely to encounter a fair number of pedestrians along your walks. The best way to make sure everything goes smoothly and that no one gets hurt is to keep your dog on a short leash.
The nearest park is the Cameron Barkley Rotary Memorial Park where you will find a volleyball court, playground, a tennis court, and plenty of grass to take your dog out to play on. Across the street, there is a large open field that is used for soccer practice and parking. It also offers you and your dog a little room to run around.
On the other hand, there is Cocoa Beach. Dogs are permitted on these sandy dunes, so you'll want to enjoy it! No matter where you live, there are walkways down to the sand. It’s a great place to take long walks, enjoying the sun, sand, and surf as you venture for as far as you'd like. Just remember that no matter how far you choose to walk, you have to walk the same distance back. Be realistic and don't go so far you have to call a taxi to return you to your car!
