Wag! Walkers know Cocoa Beach City Center
The Cocoa Beach City Center consists mostly of the city offices, the fire department, the police department, and a number of businesses. There are, however, some residences nearby and you never know who might be out and about with a playful pooch! Working or living in this area puts you within a ten to fifteen-minute walk of the beach, making for a perfect lunch break walk with your furry friend.
Being in the city center, there are plenty of local stores for you to shop at and, in reality, you can find just about everything you need right here as far as essentials like food go! If you need a bigger grocery store, there is a Publix less than ten minutes away. For more shopping, head north to the West Cocoa Beach Causeway. Along with a number of stores and a shopping center, the causeway goes over to Merritt Island which offers the Merritt Island Mall and a Walmart Supercenter.
What is the terrain like in Cocoa Beach City Center?
As you might expect in a city center, the traffic can be hectic at times with three major north-south roads running through the region. Trying to find a quiet time of day to go out for your walks can be tricky. The best hour to avoid traffic is early in the morning before rush hour begins. During the hotter months of the year, this the best time to go walking anyway as the temperatures are much cooler.
Along both sides of Orlando Avenue, the city has installed wide brick sidewalks along the flat terrain that give you and your dog enough room to walk without having to hike up or down any steep grade or hills. Most of the other streets also have sidewalks for you to use, but they are standard. The one thing you can expect to deal with in the city center is a lot of pedestrians, not only during the day, but also in the evenings with multiple restaurants and bars in the region.
How many greenways are there in Cocoa Beach City Center?
There is a small park behind the city offices building where you and your dog can stretch your legs. On South Brevard Avenue, there is a wide sidewalk running alongside one of the many canals that lead out to the Banana River. The walkway is lined with shade trees and makes a nice walk for you and your dog.
If you have more time, you can take the two-block walk over to the beach where you and your pup can enjoy long walks together in the sunshine. One thing to note is that while the beaches are open to dogs and you are sure to see many other dog owners walking their furry friends, there are strict times when your pup is permitted. These times are 6 to 10AM and 5 to 7PM. Of course, during the summer months, you should plan to be out here during the morning hours before it gets too hot.
