Coconut Cay is a small townhome community at the corner of Ocean Beach Boulevard and St. Lucie Lane. Right across the street is a public parking lot and beach access for you and your pooch. The area around the townhouses is mostly covered with condominiums and hotels. There is, however, a mini-golf course on the same block and a Taco Bell within walking distance. You can take your dog for a walk while you pick up your to-go order at the drive-thru window!
To the west, along North Atlantic Avenue, is a shopping center anchored by a Winn-Dixie Supermarket and a Bealls outlet store. There are several other stores in the vicinity along with a selection of both chain and local restaurants for you and your family to choose from. For the coffee lovers, there is a Starbucks within walking distance where you can grab your morning cup of joe.
No matter how you slice it, this is a bustling area of town between the shopping center along North Atlantic Avenue and the numerous condos along Ocean Beach Boulevard. Rush hours tend to be a bit on the crazy side since the West Cocoa Beach Causeway is the main route to and from the mainland. The vast majority of all commercial and non-commercial traffic funnels across the causeway to and from the peninsula.
Be sure you keep your dog on a short leash and remain vigilant to avoid any risk of being run over. While the terrain is flat, you can still run afoul of some passing vehicles. If you're looking for a quieter area to roam, you can venture to the nearby residential areas to get away from too much hustle and bustle. However, you'll likely have to deal with pedestrian traffic no matter where you happen to roam in this busy neighborhood.
The nearest green space is the beach which is easily accessed via the public parking lot at the end of Palm Lane. Keep in mind that dogs are only allowed on the beach at certain hours. Failure to pick up after your dog could result in a $250 fine, so don't forget to keep things clean! The two of you can walk for as many miles as you can handle on the beach, making it a great place for those looking for some good exercise.
Less than ten minutes to the south is the Cocoa Beach Public Dog Park. The park has a fenced in area that covers 32,000 square feet and is divided into sections for large and small dogs. The areas have plenty of seating in the shade and water hoses to help the dogs stay hydrated. The dog park also has a rinse station you can use to rinse the dust off your pup and cool them down.
