Wag! Walkers know Greenwood
The community of Greenwood sits on Greenwood Lane which happens to be a cul-de-sac branching off South 4th Street. The houses are upper-middle class with plenty of shade trees and large yards. One of the benefits of living in a cul-de-sac is the distinct lack of thru-traffic. The residential neighborhoods to the west sit on artificial canals that lead out into the Banana River. Unfortunately, those in Greenwood are not part of the canal communities.
Less than five-minutes to the north is the Minuteman Causeway. Along with several local restaurants that are definitely worth checking out, there are two supermarkets and the city offices, fire and police departments, and other local amenities for convenience.
If you go east on 4th Street, you can be on the beach in less than five minutes by car! There is a park nearby and the local dog park is less than 10 minutes to the north.
What is the terrain like in Greenwood?
Within the cul-de-sac, there is a sidewalk running around the entire neighborhood for you and your dog to walk on with one on the north side of South 4th that you and your dog can use to stretch your legs or hike all the way to the beach.
When it comes to traffic, you might see a little within the cul-de-sac, but the bulk of it will be on South 4th Street. This street is the only one leading from the residential areas to the main north-south roads nearby.
Although none of the individual canal communities have sidewalks for you and your dog to use, there is a wide paved path available in the region. The two of you can walk to the where the road ends at the Banana River or you can follow it back into town and over to the beach. Keep your pup on a short leash to allow other pedestrians to pass without issue.
How many greenways are there in Greenwood?
The nearest green space is directly across South 4th Street. Ramp Road Park offers two different playgrounds for kids, basketball and tennis courts, public restrooms, and a small boat launch for kayaks and canoes. Most importantly, the park has lots of grass for you and your fur-buddy to play on. You must keep your dog on a leash and clean up any messes they make. Not only is this the right thing to do, but it helps keep the park clean for others who use it!
At the east end of South 4th is the beach. Here in Cocoa Beach, the coastal areas from 4th Street South to the northern edge of Murkshe Park are open to dogs during a few hours of the day. The beach makes a wonderful place to go walking with your pooch, especially in the morning when you practically have it to yourself!
