Wag! Walkers know Indian Creek Estates
Indian Creek Estates is a small neighborhood in which many
of the houses sit on the Banana River. The homes here are upscale with plenty
of shade trees to help keep the heat from the Florida sun at bay. The entire community
sits far enough away from the hustle and bustle of North Brevard Avenue, but close
enough that you can be on the Minuteman Causeway for shopping opportunities in less than five
minutes.
Along the causeway and the surrounding blocks, there are several small stores, places to eat, and the city offices alongside the fire and police departments.
If the small grocery stores here don't have everything you need, you can take A1A north where you will find a Publix
supermarket with more options, just in case you are looking for something a little different. The drive should take you
less than ten minutes on a busy day.
What is the terrain like in Indian Creek Estates?
Both North Shore Drive and Indian Creek Drive are dead-end streets without any sign of sidewalks.
The only traffic you are likely to be stuck dealing with is from those who live
here heading to work in the morning or back home at the end of the day. This a family
neighborhood, so you should expect to see children of all ages at play during the
day along with school buses during the school year.
You can continue your walk outside of the community, but
sidewalks continue to be non-existent on most of the blocks. The best way to handle
walking your dog under these conditions is to keep them on a short leash. This way, the two of you can explore the downtown area and surrounding communities safely.
The best time of day to go out for your daily walks is in the early morning
before rush hour and before it gets too hot
for your dog to be outside.
How many greenways are there in Indian Creek Estates?
Whether you take 1st Street or 2nd Street, the two of you can be
on the beach in under fifteen minutes and
that's if you take your time. Thankfully, Cocoa Beach, unlike its neighbor to the north, allows dogs on its soft sands. Keep in mind that they're only allowed to be there during certain hours
of the day. The rules are simple otherwise: keep your dog on a leash and clean up any messes
they make!
The only dog park in town is less than ten minutes to the
north on A1A and has a secured area that covers almost an acre. The secure
area is divided into sections for large
and small breeds, plus an additional section that has a rinse station for you to rinse the
dust off and cool your dog down at the end of their time playing with the rest of
the pups in the park.
