Wag! Walkers know Ocean Terrace
Ocean Terrace is a large neighborhood of luxury homes and one
large condominium building. The community
sits between A1A and the Atlantic coast, giving those who live here an outstanding
view of the sun coming up over the water. There is an access path from Westcrest Drive that
you can use to take your dog for early morning walks on the beach.
Shopping for necessities like food for your family, access to a pharmacy, and other shopping options is only half a mile to the
south along A1A at the Publix Supermarket and the strip mall occupying the same
parking lot. There are even several excellent restaurants
to check on both sides of A1A.
Here in Cocoa Beach, dogs are permitted on the coast from 4th Street to the north side of Murkshe Park, from 6 to 10AM and
5 to 7PM according to a new permanent ordinance passed in January of
2019.
What is the terrain like in Ocean Terrace?
Traffic along A1A remains busy during most of the day with
so many condos, hotels, and shopping nearby. However, during the morning and evening
rush hours, you should expect to see a significant
increase in the number of vehicles on this vital stretch of road.
Ocean Terrace
sits on Surf Drive and Westcrest Drive, but neither of these roads has sidewalks for you and your dog to use while out walking, so
extra care is needed when there is
traffic.
You can use the flat sidewalks running along A1A, but during the
day, the traffic on this highway can be heavy
and noisy at times. Be sure you use a short leash that gives you control in
case something should spook your pup. Unfortunately,
living here doesn't offer much in the way of large residential neighborhoods to wander in. However, you can always get up early and use the beach to get out and enjoy the fresh air.
How many greenways are there in Ocean Terrace?
By far, the best green space to take your dog for a walk is
along the beach from 4th Avenue all the way
up to Murkshe Park in the north. The beach offers both of you the opportunity
to challenge yourselves to walk in the soft sand that gives your leg muscles a
great workout. Alternatively, the two of you can meander along the ocean's edge, playing in the surf and looking for seashells. Early mornings before 10AM are the perfect time to go for a hike during the summer as
the temperature is far more pleasant.
One mile to the south on A1A is a public dog park with 32,000
square feet of space divided into areas for large and small breeds. There
are water hoses and plenty of chairs for you to relax on in the
shade. Here, you will also find beach access in an area where you can take your
dog on the sand during the prescribed hours!
