Wag! Walkers know Snug Harbor Estates
Snug Harbor Estates is a large residential area of upscale homes along the east bank of the Banana River. Most of the houses here sit on the waterfront and have docks where boats can be tied up or where you can fish. This area is as far south as you can go and still be able to take your dog out for walks on the beach. Being this far south puts you close to the entrance to Patrick Air Force Base, but far away from grocery stores and the heart of Cocoa Beach.
While you might be at the southern tip of the city, you can be shopping in the grocery stores near the Minuteman Causeway in five minutes where you can pick up essential supplies for your entire family. A drive further north will take you to the West Cocoa Beach Causeway where there is a Winn-Dixie supermarket and a bridge over to the mainland and Merritt Island.
What is the terrain like in Snug Harbor Estates?
As a large working family neighborhood, you and your dog should expect to see a surge in traffic during the morning and evening rush hours. However, once the main rush is over, traffic is very limited and consists of a small amount of local traffic. With the lack of any hills or steep climbs in this area, pups should be able to get around without an issue whether or not they have mobility issues.
In a family neighborhood, you won't be the only people out and about. Look forward to seeing other pedestrians in the area and exercise some caution if your pup is a little bit nervous about meeting strangers. Be sure you use a short leash when taking your pooch out for daily walks. This will give you more control and maintain a level of safety when passing other people on the streets. If necessary, try to head out during the earlier hours to avoid running into too many people at once!
How many greenways are there in Snug Harbor Estates?
Being this far south in the city, you won't find a park nearby where you and your dog can play. However, what you will find is the southern end of the beach where you and your dog are still allowed to play in the sand. Cocoa Beach allows dogs to be on the coastal areas running from 4th Street down to Murkshe Park. From the park, you and your dog can hike north for as far as you like during certain hours here pups are allowed.
However, if the two of you are looking for a dog park where your dog can run around off-leash, the Cocoa Beach public dog park is a ten-minute drive to the north. The fenced-in area covers almost an acre and has areas to keep small and large breeds separate. There are water hoses for the dogs and chairs in the shade to sit and relax on whenever that hot Florida sun becomes a little too much.
